
Granted that most of these students are Mac users. I agree with expanding horizons but many business apps run on windows not other OSs, My wife works at a community college and many students she meets will state they know how to use a computer but they cannot create content in Word or Excel. Expand your child's horizons and consider trying a Linux distro, maybe a multi-boot until they figure out what they like best.

I loaded Linux on my 85yo mothers machine years ago and it took all of 15 minutes for her to figure it out. You can easily setup a Linux device to emulate a Chromebook, I'm actually using an EOL Chromebook that has Linux loaded on it now! Look at some of the posts where companies are turning to Chromebooks either to work on directly or to use as VPN conduits but they are getting used. A vast majority of schools have or are moving to Chromebooks and as time goes on the hold that Windows has will be diminished, it's already happening with the "stay at home" situation we are in. Kids should be given the opportunity to explore everything and find what works for them.

I would not do that unless you want hinder the child in the future, they should learn what is used in day to day business unless they have a desire to learn an OS from a programing / design / discovery angle.
